In an emergency, call 112 anywhere in the European Union, or 999 in the United Kingdom. Tell the operator what was taken, if you know. You will not be judged for it: the priority is getting help on time.
Testing is one step of several
Dope or Nope tests exist because people use drugs whether or not they are legal, and because knowing what is in a sample lowers some of the risks. A test can stop you from taking something that is not what it was sold as. It cannot make any drug use safe, and there is no such thing as safe drug use. Harm reduction organisations add a few points that matter at least as much as testing:
- Do not use alone. Make sure someone you trust knows what you took and can call for help.
- Avoid mixing. Combining drugs with each other or with alcohol adds risks. The drug information services below explain specific combinations.
- Know the signs that need help, such as someone who cannot be woken, breathes very slowly or overheats, and call the emergency number straight away.
- Take a lab test when you can. Drug checking services see what a colour test misses.

Drug checking in a laboratory
In the Netherlands, DIMS (Drugs Information and Monitoring System) lets you hand in drugs at testing locations, under conditions listed on its website. DIMS also publishes warnings about dangerous pills and powders. In Germany, the Narcotics Act allows the federal states to permit drug checking model projects (§ 10b BtMG, gesetze-im-internet.de); Berlin runs one (drugchecking.berlin). In Spain, Energy Control analyses samples and publishes alerts, and its international service accepts samples by post.
