DOPE OR NOPE

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Dope or Nope drug tests: accuracy, purity, which test to pick, storage, legality and what to do with a strange result.

Short answers to the questions people ask most about Dope or Nope tests. Each answer links to a page with more detail.

How reliable is a Dope or Nope test?

A test gives an indication of the identity of the active substance and cannot offer 100% certainty. A matching colour means the expected substance is probably present. It tells you nothing about the amount or about other substances in the sample. See reading results.

Does a matching colour mean my drugs are safe?

No. A colour shows that a substance is probably present. It does not show how strong the sample is or what else is in it, and no drug use is ever safe. The leaflet in every pack says the same.

Can a test tell me how pure my drugs are?

The regular tests show presence only. The cocaine purity test, the MDMA purity test and the heroin purity test give an indication of purity from their own chart. For an actual percentage you need a lab-based drug checking service.

Which test do I need?

Pick the test for the substance you expect: the test finder on the home page helps. Not sure what a sample is at all? Start with the General drug test, which covers nine groups of common drugs on one chart.

How much of my sample do I use?

A tiny bit, about the size of a pinhead. More material does not give a better result. The manual walks through all six steps.

Can I use one test for several samples?

No. Each pack holds one single-use test. Use a new test for every sample, including pills from another batch or powder from another bag.

What does it mean if nothing happens?

No reaction, or a colour that is not on the chart, means the sample does not contain the substance on the chart. What it contains instead is unknown. It might be harmless or extremely dangerous. Throw it away.

Does a test detect fentanyl or nitazenes?

No Dope or Nope test is designed to find fentanyl or nitazenes. A positive heroin or opiates result does not rule them out. Lab-based drug checking can find them; see where to get help.

How should I store the tests?

Cool and dark, below 35 °C (95 °F), in the original packaging and out of reach of children. The liquid contains a strong acid.

The drug laws of the countries we checked regulate the substances, not reagent test kits. Owning most of the drugs you would test usually is an offence. Read our legal notes per country.

Who can use these tests?

Adults only (18+). The tests and this site give information. They are no encouragement to use drugs.
